History

Registered in December of 2001, this has been my (untended) digital garden for two decades. I occasionally tinker with the design, but I have commitment issues when publishing my thoughts. Instead, they are tucked away in Evernote.

Previously, my thoughts were organized on snazzy.org. While the more robust site no longer exists, I currently use the domain to capture meaningful quotes and test a headless CMS.

Typography

Headlines are in Romie, a calligraphy-inspired display font by Margot Lévêque. I adore its elegance. Navigation and Body copy are set in Proxima Nova, a modern geometric font by Mark Simonson. I appreciate its legibility and similarities to Futura.

Infrastructure

Upon sunsetting my web hosting business in 2009, I’ve been slightly nomadic with my hosting solution. In January of 2018, I found a home at DigitalOcean where I have a virtual machine managed with ServerPilot. The site is powered by WordPress and built with Blocksy, which I’ve found to be an incredibly flexible and Gutenberg-friendly theme.

Why a Colophon

Originally based on an idea from IndieWeb, I’ve always enjoyed learning how others build, design, and publish on the web. Honestly, I miss the early days of the web, where inspiration and information felt more accessible. There is no shortage of how-to videos, but community and camaraderie seem absent. Webrings anyone?
